Desk Placement

I am confused by the proper direction to place a desk. Which side of the desk should be facing the auspicious direction? Is it the front of the desk or the side where one sits? Also, is it OK to sit on the side with one’s back against an inauspicious direction while the front of the desk faces an auspicious direction? Thanks!
